It is the biggest swamp of the Caribbean located to the South of Matanzas City, 1´30 hrs from Varadero. It mostly consists of a huge swamp, partly covered by forest and treasures one of the most complete wildlife reserves in the Caribbean, rich in birds and animals. This site was declared a Biosphere Reserve and the area around the Treasure Lagoon, has been designated a national park, the Gran Parque Natural de Montemar. The Caribbean coast, with its sandy beaches, attracts scuba divers and fans of other water sports.

This Novel Prize winner fell in love with Cuba attracted initially by marlin fishing, subject he developed later in The Old Man and the Sea. Room 511, in Hotel Ambos Mundos housed him every time he came since 1928, until he bought a quiet villa, Finca La Vigia in 1940, places from where he wrote multiple novels and essays. The American author was a lover of cocktails and a regular to El Floridita and La Bodeguita del Medio bars.

Two capital cities of central Cuba are within the rural heart of Cuba. Such cities treasure visible Spanish traits in its architecture and local customs. Cienfuegos, founded by French in 1819, is a maritime town with well-preserved historical buildings and one of the most captivating bays in the Caribbean Sea. Its historical center was declared World´s Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2005. Trinidad, one of the first seven villages founded in Cuba (1514) which still seems slept in time, was declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988, a city where the architectural wealth makes you travel back in time thanks to conservation and restoration of buildings.
